Did we miss something?

Welcome to the FAQ for Phirebrush. In here, we address many of the questions we get but not every one, just the general ones. Do you think something should be added here that we may have missed? Well, hope on over to our contact section and let us know!

We'll be trying to regularly update this FAQ section with new answers to commonly asked questions, so check back often!

* General / Site Related

I've seen some nude images in your issues, do you allow nudity?
Yes, we do allow nudity if it is TASTEFULLY and artistically done. This is art. The human body is a beautiful piece. If we judge a piece to risque, we will not allow it into our release.

What does "claim this submission" mean?
You may see a notice under submissions in our issues giving the option to claim a submission. This is meant for logged in users. By claiming a submission, you are adding it to your profile. Please, only claim a submission if it is YOUR work. The reason we went this route is not everyone wishes to be a registered user or has used multiple aliases.

I accidentally claimed a submission that was not mine
That is ok, it happens. But, please email us and let us know! We have a system setup where if the username or email doesn't match the submission, we will email you to verify it is your works. But it will save us some time if you let us know too.

Something doesn't appear to look right/load right. I think it may be a bug/error.
If you don't think something looks the way it supposed to, please try and take a screenshot and email it to us. We'll look it over and see if your hunch is correct. With so many browsers coming out today, it's hard to keep up with them all (but we try).

Is my work still copyrighted to me if I submit?
Yes! Your work is still yours and so is your copyright. By submitting to Phirebrush your just allowing us to display the work on our site. Under each submission is a copyright notice that the work still belongs to the author.

How do I donate or become a sponsor?
If you wish to donate, there is a donation button on the contact page. Just click it and paypal your donation. After we received your donation, we'll be sure to add your name (and a link) to our about page to thank you! You do not need to donate but it sure does help!

As far as sponsorships are concerned, these appear both on the front page of Phirebrush as well as the sidebar at Daily.Phirebrush. If you are serious about putting a sponsor ad on our site, please email us and we can work something out. But please bear in mind that your ad must be artistic in nature or we will not accept it.

Why does Phirebrush not display right in 800x600 (or lower) resolution?
When we redesigned Phirebrush we had to make a big decision, to design the site for 800x600 or for 1024x768 as the minimum resolution. After a lot of research as well as checking our daily stats to the site, we felt comfortable with making the jump to a larger format website. More and more computers are shipping with 1024 as the minimum resolution and our stats showed a very minimal amount of visitors to the site (under 4% to be exact) were running 800x600 or lower resolution. So with the larger format, it allowed for more screen real estate for the site. We recommend that you change your resolution to at least 1024 for best viewing of the site (and to give yourself a bit more desktop space).

Can I use (insert image name here)??
The short answer: NO!
Work displayed on Phirebrush is for display purposes only. The artists gave us permission to display them here for our monthly releases. You're best bet is to check an artists profile/website and contact them about using their artwork or even contacting them about work.

When does Phirebrush launch their new releases?
We launch our new releases (new issue/interview) on the 1st of every month. Submissions for each release must be in by the last day of each month for a chance to make it into the next release.

Can I showcase a piece found on Phirebrush on my website?
Again, the short answer is NO. This means you can not download an image and/or hotlink (copying the image path of an image from our server) and use on your website or social networking profiles. Again, your best bet is to contact the artist directly for usage of the imagery.

* Profiles / Users

Do I need to register?
No you do not. You can still submit to our releases without being registered. But by registering it makes it easier to submit to multiple issues and offers a few goodies in return.

Why doesn't my avatar/profile picture show up?
This has been one of the weirdest issues since the re-design and to be honest, we have yet to be able to pinpoint the cause. It works perfectly for some and not at all for others, and even then, it'll work later for those who couldn't get it to work. So, for now, if you're having issues, just try it again at a later point. We'll be re-coding this in the near future when we tweak the user profile setup.

How do I get my older submissions to show in my profile?
This is quite simple but will take a little bit of effort on your part. Just search through our past issues. If you notice one of your works, view the full view of the image (by clicking the thumbnail). Under the image you will see a note about clicking to claim a submission. Just click and we'll get a notice and approve/disapprove the claim. Once approved, it'll show up in your profile.

How do I reset my password?
At the current time, in order to have your password reset, you will have to email us and let us know the new password you wish to use and we can change it for you. Since the user system is new and in an unofficial beta stance, we will be adding a full-functioning password recovery system in the near future. Thanks for your understanding!

new  Help! My login isn't working!
This could be due to any number of issues. Did you type the password correctly? Did you type your username in correctly? Both are CASE SENSITIVE! If you did these correctly, try waiting a few minutes, maybe the server is getting alot of requests or suffered a small hiccup. If you still can't, please do email us and let us know what's happening and any errors you may be receiving.

* Submitting / Issues

Does my submission need to be new?
Your submission doesn't need to be brand new or saved for our release, but we'd love it if it was. But if you have a work that is over 5 years old, please don't submit it, unless you REALLY love and are proud of it. We'd like to keep our issues filled with newer content if possible.

Can I submit for someone else?
Please don't! Instead, show them or send them a link to the site and let them submit instead.

Why did my submission not make it?
This is quite possibly the most asked question we get and there are quite a few answers: Maybe the quality of the image was subpar (meaning, there was jpeg artifact, etc). Maybe you submitted more than 5 submissions to a particular category. Maybe it was previously submitted to a past issue. Maybe we suspected it was a ripped piece and lastly. Maybe the image was far to large (but most times we'll resize for you) or even too small? Maybe we just didn't deem it worthy to put in our release. That last reason is rarely the reason, as we do try to let both amateurs and professionals submit. But, being an online art magazine, we do have to keep quality in check. Please don't be sad, try submitting something else!

I just submitted, but it's not showing up in my profile.
Your submission (if approved) will not show up in your profile until after the release has been launched. Patience!

I'm a 'user' and my new submission isn't in my profile after the release!
Are you sure you were logged in while submitting? It won't show up unless you were. But if you were logged in and you see your submission in our issue but not in your profile after launch, please let us know.

Why was my photo moved to art? (and other category moves)
Users will quite often submit to the wrong category (even by mistake) and we will move them to the right category or even to one that better fits. If you feel that we may have moved a submission to one category but deserves to be in another, let us know.

Why did my submission get resized?
Please keep in mind this is an ONLINE art magazine, so with that said, we have to make sure images are not to large both in dimension and file size. So, if you submit we may resize it to be more "web friendly" rather than rejecting the submission.

I got an error using submission form.
This has become quite the rare issue, but it still happens. If you are experiencing problems with our submission form, please, email us with the error and we'll do our best to help you out!

new  Do all submissions make it in?
This seems to be the common misconception. No, not every submission makes it into our releases. Although we try to keep an open mind and let both amateurs and professionals into our releases. But with the site growing and more people submitting for each release, we've become more strict with every release, trying to keep quality up. If you didn't make it in, don't give up, keep trying!

new  What's the deal with the "Featured Submissions" each issue?
Another touchy subject so to speak, the featured submissions. We get quite a few messages asking why was a submission picked or even why certain ones were not picked. Each issue (minus the older ones) feature 18 submissions we think best represent that issue. We try to break it down to about 6-7 submissions from Artwork and Photography, as these are the categories that bring in the most submissions. It's HARD to narrow down only 18 submissions from 300+ so please bear with us, we can't feature EVERYONE.

* Daily.Phirebrush

Will my user login on Phirebrush work at Daily.PB?
No, it will not. We are using Wordpress for now at daily.phirebrush and have allowed anyone to comment. In the future, daily.pb will be hand-coded to allow users to login and post news.

Do I need to login to comment?
Nope. Just fill in your name/email and post your comment. simple!

Why does my comment need to be approved?
By letting ANYONE comment we have to use the approval system to filtered spam. But once one of your comments has been approved, all future ones will be auto-approved.

How do I contribute?
Quite easily! In the navigation, just click Contribute and fill out the form with your information and your news. We'll get it and do our best to post it as soon as we can.

Can I join the Daily.PB staff?
Off the bat? Probably not. You gotta earn it baby! Just submit as often as you can. If you continue to feed us some great news we'll invite you to join the Daily.PB staff.
